An Emergency Altimeter manufactured by Kollsman Instrument Ltd. in the late 1960s/early 1970s

This altimeter displayed altitude in 100 feet increments on the main instrument panel. It was an emergency indicator to be used during failure or power loss of the other altitude displays. It is an entirely mechanical, air-pressure-driven device. Inside the metal casing is a set of sealed, flexible metal bellows which would expand or contract as the air pressure changed with altitude. This would drive a series of intricate gears and levers to adjust the needles and figures on the display. The red plug covers the static pressure port, acting as the primary data input for this indicator.
This indicator was fitted to a prototype aircraft (likely 002). It retains its original aluminium identification with a low serial number of 206, as well as various certification stamps.
